Technology overview
blueKiwi is built in a modular fashion, and is operating system and database independent. The only reason to care about our technology platform is if you want to install and manage blueKiwi yourself as an on-premise solution.
Christophe Routhiau, VP Products at blueKiwi Software
With our Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery model, we deliver the solution and take care of the underlying platform. So you only need to care about this section if you're interested in deploying blueKiwi as an on-premise solution...
Key facts about our technology stack:
- We run on different database systems (SQL Server, mySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle ,...),
- We support different file storage mechanisms including file servers, databases or dedicated ECM repository such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.
- We support different business directories for authentication and personal information retrieval (Active directory, LDAP).
blueKiwi integrates easily into a corporate environment with the support of authentication from LDAP or Active Directory. Personal data used in blueKiwi can be synchronized with third-party software (such as an HR application).
A plug-in architecture allows the addition of external elements such as unified communications or instant messaging systems.
Indexing and search features use the native Sinequa Engine (OEM Integration), providing blueKiwi with multilingual search, full-text analysis as well as misspelling and phonetic tolerance.
blueKiwi has a powerful alerting system by email or content syndication. Email alerts are based on standards and require an active SMTP gateway on the server (which may be dependent on secure authentication). Syndication is based on Atom or RSS standards. These feeds are secured (by login and password) and are customised according to the profile of users.
The interface meets the web standards : xhtml/css2. Customisation is based on style sheets. The ease of use and interaction has been implemented by using AJAX features (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) and in some case by Adobe Flash. blueKiwi is used in a web browser, Firefox (2.0 and higher), for all OS, and Internet Explorer (6.0 and higher) on Windows, with Adobe Flash (8.0 and higher).
In addition to browsers, blueKiwi has an API for integration with external applications.
blueKiwi implements industry standard security best practices. User authentication is controlled via unique and valid username and password combinations that are encrypted. Our security model is reapplied with every request and enforced for the entire duration of the session. Our role-based model guarantees that users only have access to the content that they should have access to. We provide full cross-site scripting (XSS) & SQL injection protection.
Our stack is built, tested and benchmarked to ensure optimum performance for Linux/Apache, Windows/IIS7, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLServer and Oracle
